Maritime Heart Centre Cross Country and Family Fun Run

Volunteer. Bring your kids. On Saturday June 12 the Maritime Heart Centre Family Fun Run and Youth Running Series Cross Country Race will take place at the Inglis St/Goresbrook field.

Volunteer activity starts at 8am. Race registration opens at 9am. Races start at 10am.
The race registration fee is $4 / person. Distances range from 1 km to 3 km.
Mosquito (Ages 9 and under): 1.0 km

Great Prizes: All participants will have the chance to win excellent draw prizes – including Norco bikes, sneakers and fun sports toys.

Have kids in school? Sign them up and bring their classmates. For schools, the Youth Running Series offers the opportunity win funds to purchase sports equipment. Schools are awarded points based on the number of their students who participate in their 2010 Series. At the end of the series, the top five schools will win cash prizes (1st place $600, 2nd $500, 3rd $400, 4th $300, 5th place $200).

This event is just one way that the Maritime Heart Centre promotes heart healthy activity for children and families and an event that Halifax Running Club has been happy to support. Everyone is welcome to participate. If you're able to volunteer but haven't signed up yet, email Erin McDonah.

HRC Members on the Trail

A number of HRC members took part in the 2010 Cabot Trail Relay as runners, volunteers and running volunteers. It was another great event and special thanks to the organizers and volunteers who make this event possible.
Check out Brian’s pictures from Cabot Trail.

Craig's Cause Maritime Bike Tour

From July 28 to August 2, HRC members Mike Harrigan and George Clark are taking part in the 1st annual Craig's Cause Maritime Bike Tour - an event that is raising funds and awareness for pancreatic cancer research and education. If you're interested in contributing to the cause or taking part in the bike tour, visit the Craig's Cause website.

Maritime Heart Centre offers Bootcamp

The Maritime Heart Centre offers a Heart Pump Boot Campu with Flexion Performance Training. These 8-week workshops started the first of June and are offered at the Garrison Grounds. There are three sessions to choose from (Tuesdays at 6:30 am, Thursdays at 6:15 pm and Saturdays at 10am). Biomechanics of the Running Stride

Kinetesis Sports Injury & Performance Clinic is offering a 2-hour workshop on what you need to know to prevent injury, improve technique, and enhance your running performance. The clinic takes place Saturday June 12 from 9-11 am. For more information, view the workshop flyer.

Summer running

The club will continue to remain open for Sunday runs through the summer. Once the weather gets warmer we may have a few groups who choose to start their Sunday runs a bit earlier. We'll try to keep members posted of these schedules through the summer. We also have a few events planned including "Smoothie Sunday" which will take place Sunday July 11.

Singlets: As the weather gets warmer, you may also want to consider adding a cool moisture-wicking HRC singlet to your running wardrobe. Singlets cost $35 and are available at the club or by emailing Erin McDonah.
